How to use EnaLog metrics

In this article, I'll show you how to use metrics in EnaLog and what they can do for you.

What is metrics?

In EnaLog metrics are charts or counters that allow you to visualise your events data in either a counter or chart format. At the time of writing EnaLog support two metric types: Counters and Bar charts. Line charts, funnels and sankey diagrams are in the works though.

How to use?

I'm going to assume that you have signed up to EnaLog, completed onboarding and have started pushing events to EnaLog.

So to get started creating your first metric you can head to the 'Metrics' page and click the 'New Metric' button. You will be directed to a page where you will need to fill in some information about your new metric:

  • Title - the title of your metric. For example, 'Blog Views per day'
  • Project - select the project that this metric will belong to from the dropdown
  • Type - select the type from the dropdown, either counter or bar chart. For this example select bar
  • Timeframe - select the timeframe for this metric. Currently limited to 1 day, 7 days, 14 days, and 30 days for bar charts and for counters all the same timeframes including an 'All time' option. For this example select 14 days
  • Event - select the event that you want this metric to visualise from the dropdown

Once you have completed the form and hit 'Create' you will be redirected back to the 'Metrics' page where you will see your new metric.

You should now see a bar chart showing how many times the event you selected has been pushed to EnaLog over the past 14 days! Metrics can always be edited or deleted by hovering over the metric and clicking either the edit or delete icon.

Wrapping up

This is just short introduction into EnaLog metrics and we will be sharing more tutorials and details as this feature grows.

Have a good day and keep pushing events!
